Ride from Silver City to Albuquerque

Silver City – Cliff – Buckhorn – Reserve – Datil – Magdalena – Socorro – Albuquerque

Ride from Silver City to Albuquerque with a stop for lunch in Socorro–Took US 180 north to Reserve, then NM 12 north to US 60, then east to I 25 and north to Albuquerque.

This ride was 310 miles with about 5 1/2 hours of ride time.

Ride to Silver City using NM 152

Albuquerque – Socorro – Truth or Consequences – Williamsburg – NM 152 –  Hillsboro – Santa Clara – Sliver City

Ride from Albuquerque to Silver City with a ride on US 152 through the Black Hills–Took I 25 for 152 miles south to Williamsburg, exited to NM 187, then south on NM 187 and west on NM 152 for 65 miles, then west on US 180 into Silver City

This weekend I’m taking my wife on an overnight trip to Silver City and we will be staying in a tent at the KOA Silver City. Silver City is one of my wife’s favorite quick trips and we have visited there many times over the years. However, this will be our first time motorcycle camping together and I’m hoping she enjoys it.

Ride from Alamogordo to Carlsbad

Alamogordo – White Sands – Cloudcroft – Artesia – Carlsbad Caverns – Carlsbad

Ride from Alamogordo to Carlsbad with stops to see White Sands and Carlsbad Caverns – Took US 70 west 15 miles to White Sands, then back east on US 70 to US 82, right/east on US 82 to US 285, then south to Carlsbad, then 14 miles west on US 62 to White City, then 7 miles on NM 7 to Carlsbad Caverns

Ride was 244 miles with about 6 hours of riding time.

While sleeping in the tent I had one of those nights where I was too cold outside the sleeping bag and too hot in it. Then a couple of times trains rumbled past, so loud that the ground shook at their passing. With all that going on, I still woke up just before sunrise, feeling refreshed and ready to start the day.
