Ride to see the aspens turn in the Pecos Wilderness and Santa Fe Ski Area – Take NM 313 to NM 14 north, cut across to Galisteo on Co Rd 42, then north on US 285, east on I-25 8 miles to exit 299 Glorieta/Pecos (NM 50), turn left on NM 63 for 20 miles-where the road ends turn around and ride back to Santa Fe and the US 285/Lamy exit-east on Old Vegas Highway to the first light, then right, then left on Old Santa Fe Trail, right on Paseo De Peralta, right on Otero, right on Artist Road/NM 475 for 15 miles to Santa Fe Ski Area—then return to Santa Fe, left on Paseo De Peralta, left on US 285, south on I-25 to Albuquerque
Ride is 250 miles, but around 6.5 hours riding time.
My wife was off work for a couple of weeks off and she wanted to ride into the mountains before the aspens lost all their leaves. So I took Thursday off to take my wife to the Pecos Wilderness and the Santa Fe Ski Area. We stopped for a late lunch in Santa Fe before heading back to Albuquerque.

Riding my favorite Santa Fe Loop – take NM 333 to NM 14, right on Frost Road (NM 306) stay east on NM 472 to Stanley, north on NM 41 past Galisteo to US 285, right onto the Old Las Vegas Highway. Then a right at the Steak Smith(first light) for a short cross over to Old Santa Fe Trail, follow it through Santa Fe making a right on Paseo De Peralta after few blocks right again on Bishops Lodge Road. Pass under US 285 to the Frontage Road follow it past Camel Rock to Pojoaque. Stay in the right lane to NM 502, follow it to NM 4. Ride NM 4 through the Jemez to a left on US 550 to Bernalillo and right on NM 313 to Albuquerque
This is my favorite Santa Fe Loop, it’s a ride I do several times a year with each season giving me a different experience. Because we finally had a some cold weather I was expecting lots of colorful scenes on this ride. On Wednesday I posted the ride with the AMRG, to see if any of the members would like to ride the loop with me and several signed up.

Ride Across the Plains of San Agustin, using I-40 to Old 66, south on NM 117 to NM 36. Gassing up in Quemado and on Pie Town for lunch on US 60. Taking US 60 to Socorro and stopping in on the 9 Annual SocorroFest!

This week a cold front brought cooler weather into New Mexico, complete with snow on the Sandia mountains. While last week’s ride was in the 70s, this ride would be in the low 40s. I got up early and dug up my cold weather gear and rode over to the Denny’s off I-25 (the meeting spot for this AMRG ride).
